LEON HAZZARD 3rd

Life for me growing up was challenging because it had many ups and downs. For example, the good times were when my mom and dad were together and the hard times came when they were separated. However, I am surrounded by a great amount of extended family from cousins to stepbrothers.

The last primary school I attended was St. Mary’s Anglican. My love for sports all began at the age of five years old. It all started after the day I turned on my television and saw my brother Leon Hazzard (2nd) running a local marathon. After I saw my brother, I started to run little races with my friends  to practice for our primary school sports day.

At present, my favorite sport is Track and Field. Also, my favorite sports role model persons are Candice Scott and Michael Johnson. I was also greatly influenced by my coach, Mr. Ishmael Lopez who represented Cuba in hammer throwing. During the years, I have been blessed by God with a lot of people who supported me.  In primary school, it was Mr. Lynch,   Mr. Browne and Mr. Garfield Gay.

When I came to Five Rivers Government Secondary School the teachers pushed me a lot more, like Mrs. Stoute-Lopez and Mrs. J. Browne. The teacher who mostly pushed me in academics is Mr. Sookhan. I am also supported by  my good friend Janelle Bailey and most of all, my family who were always there for me.

Another brother Ronnie Morain, a former swimmer of El Dorado Secondary also inspired and pushed me as well. In 2004, I was the first student belonging to this school that trained for an eight month period for Track and Field. My first year of competition was hard but I managed to push myself in Tobago and placed 2nd in Discuss and 3rd in Shot put.

Other than sports, I am known as an amateur Latin dancer and also an upcoming Disc Jockey. Before I discovered my love for sports, I wanted to become a male nurse but now I want to be a Sports Commentator. When I finish school, I also see myself as being a professional athlete. For now, I enjoy making my school proud. Whenever I win, I feel like I am walking on 'cloud nine'.
